CERF
CERF is a state-of-the-art Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) software solution utilizing advanced knowledge management technologies to meet the complex requirements of your multidisiplinary R&D organization. The core of CERF is the CERF server which is installed on a dedicated machine within your organization or on a remote "cloud" server space. Scientists then connect to the server using our full-featured CERF client software. The client can be installed on any machine, mac or windows, inside or outside your organization. Once a registered user has logged into the server they can immediately begin making notes or adding data of any kind from any source. Data is moved to the server where it is indexed for easy searching and securely stored according to 21CFR11 regulations. Centralization of data allows secure, managed, simultaneous access for scientists, managers, intellectual property specialists and collaborators. It’s easy to think of an ELN as simply a substitute for paper-based notebooks. In reality it much more! Organizations who use CERF quickly find that our full-featured ELN plays an important part in every aspect of their knowledge lifecycle.

Capture
The objective of this stage is to capture critical data from the scientific process and relate that data – in a meaningful way – to concepts or characteristics that describe the data.
CERF provides structures (templates, ontologies, controlled vocabularies, metadata) to facilitate the collection and categorization of scientific data. |

Leverage
In this stage, data must be formalized into knowledge. Conclusions are formed by exploring and analyzing data along structured dimensions. If these dimensions provide insight into the data, these conclusions are formalized and stored.
CERF provides search and organizational tools (semantic technologies, unstructured data containers) to help researchers find and identify high-value data and extract meaningful knowledge and conclusions from that data. |

Manage
Once a meaningful conclusion has been reached, it’s important to properly manage the storage and dissemination of that knowledge. Private companies preserve the knowledge in a durable format, distribute the knowledge among employees, and submit the knowledge for patent review. Public organizations often face the additional challenge of sharing these discoveries with a broader audience or transferring knowledge through licensing arrangements.
